HE has four senior county championship medals, six O’Donoghue Cup wins and three Munster Club titles in his impressive collection of GAA honours but it all paled into insignificance for Shane Myers at the weekend when he lined out for the most important match of his life.
The former Dr Crokes defender walked down the aisle with his beautiful bride, Orla O’Shea, in the Prince of Peace Church in Fossa before they enjoyed a lavish banquet and celebration with family and friends in the festive surroundings of the five-star Killarney Park Hotel.
Shane is a veterinary surgeon who runs his family’s Killarney Veterinary Clinic and Orla is a primary school teacher in Scoil Mhuire, Killorglin.
Both animal lovers, they first met when Shane was called on to tend to one of Orla’s horses and their love soon blossomed across the showjumping arena.
Orla is the only daughter of Francis and Mary Frances O’Shea of Pallas, Beaufort and Shane is the son of Jerry and Rena Myers, Rockfield, Tralee Road, Killarney.
They were wed last Friday afternoon with Fr Tom Looney, Parish Priest of Fossa and well known to both families, officiating.
Orla’s bridesmaids were her first cousins Clodagh and Ellie Woulfe. Shane’s bestman was his long-time pal Jason Clifford and the groomsman was his brother, Eddie Myers. The flowergirls were Líle and Moya Bowling and Evie Matthews.
The music during the ceremony in Fossa, which featured a delightful mix of classical and modern numbers, was provided by Sirona Strings and specialist wedding band Truly Diverse entertained the guests at the Killarney Park celebrations.
A number of Shane’s former team-mates with Dr Crokes greeted the newly-weds with a black and amber ribbon ceremony as they left the Church and the sparkling Christmas lights in Killarney provided a spectacular backdrop for expert wedding photographer Evelyn Woodard.
Shane and Orla are honeymooning in Dubai.
