Killarney was greatly saddened when he passed away this day last year but the memory of Caoimhin ‘Shaq’ O’Donoghue lives on in the town where he was a larger-than-life presence and played a huge role in the community and local sports circles.

In memory of Caoimhin, his family organised a memorial walk to mark 50th birthday some weeks ago and the event, which received fantastic support, raised an impressive €21,565 for Comfort for Chemo Kerry.

There was a huge turnout of all ages for the walk and, along with several online donations, it contributed to the fantastic fundraiser by the O’Donoghue family who lost their much-loved Caoimhin, following an illness, on May 9th 2024.

Comfort for Chemo Kerry’s mission is to fundraise €5 million for the fit-out of a new purpose-built chemotherapy unit on the grounds of University Hospital Kerry. This will allow the best care, comfort, privacy and dignity for patients in the county.

Caoimhin was a very well known personality in Killarney through his involvement with Dr Crokes and St Paul’s Basketball Club and his security work with several local businesses.
