Shaw ensures another day in Croke Park

St Brendan’s College are back in Croke Park for another final

A DYNAMIC David Shaw double and a 1-1 contribution from his Dr Crokes clubmate Mark O’Shea powered St Brendan’s College, Killarney into their second All-Ireland Colleges SFC final in a row with an eight-points victory, 3-13 to 1-11, over Mayo school St Colman’s, Claremorris in Cusack Park, Ennis.

Two Shaw goals in almost as many minutes in the second half kept Garry McGrath’s brilliantly prepared side in contention to retain the Hogan Cup they won in such stylish fashion last year

0-8 to 1-4 at half time for the Sem at half-time, St Colman’s really put it up to the champs and, in fact, the sides were level at 1-8 each with 10 minutes elapsed in the second half, the Sem’s other goal coming from the stylish Mark O’Shea.

David Shaw: on the double

Dr Crokes star David Shaw’s first goal, a low shot aided by the slippery conditions in Ennis which outsmarted Claremorris goalkeeper Brian McGuinness, and the same player fisted home his second after good approach work by Legion star Cian Gammell.

The Sem will learn who their final opponents will be next Wednesday when St Mary’s Magherafelt of Derry and St Peter’s College of Wexford’s meet in the other semi-final.
