Siofra’s double act a real weekend highlight

Siofra O’Shea will line out at Croke Park this Saturday evening

What a weekend is in store for one of Kerry’s outstanding sportswomen Siofra O’Shea who, all going according to plan, could have two coveted medals to add to her rapidly expanding personal collection come Sunday evening.

A class performer in both football and basketball, she is in line for what could be described as some energy sapping capital punishment as she lines out with the Kerry ladies in the National League final this Saturday evening before travelling across the city to link up with her St Paul’s colleagues for the Basketball Superleague decider on Sunday afternoon.

If any player possesses the stamina and determination to carry out the dual task to perfection it’s the Caherdaniel woman who displayed true grit when she famously featured in the 2023 All-Ireland final just weeks after rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament for a second time.

The 23-year-old Southern Gales star, who works as a schoolteacher, will line out at full forward against Armagh in Croke Park this evening and her experience in the guard positions will prove invaluable to St Paul’s in the biggest match in the club’s 40-year history on Sunday.

Those unable to travel to cheer her on can still keep an eye on the versatile Siofra’s progress as both games will be televised live on TG4.
