WORLD champion and Olympian Sonia O’Sullivan has launched a first ever wellness policy and programme for the South Munster Citizens Information Service which includes the Citizens Information Service in Kerry.

The brilliant distance runner, who won a 5,000m gold in the 1995 World Championships and a silver medal in the 2000 Olympic Games, linked in via Zoom from Melbourne to encourage and inspire the team to participate in the wide array of activities planned for 2021.

Plans include mental health awareness, healthy eating and physical activity initiatives.

Sonia offered the team some great tips on motivation, training, nutrition and recovery and she shares her routines and coping mechanisms from her time on the track and in competition.

The Cobh athlete is a big supporter of the Citizens Information Service and her father is one its volunteers.

“They have a super programme planned and I wish them every success with it,” she said.

Sonia is no stranger to supporting community groups and community- based activities in Kerry and her native Cork and over the years she has with St Brendan’s Athletic Club in Ballyheigue and Banna Beach Saturday Run Club.

She also took part in the SRAC Atlantic Challenge Tralee-Dingle Peninsula Cycle and the Ring of Kerry Cycle.
