For GAA enthusiasts, all roads will lead to Spa on the June bank holiday weekend when the Killarney club plays host to a novel All-Ireland 7-a-side Gaelic football tournament with teams from all over the country – and London – competing.
Men and women will tog off for the big event on the Saturday and Sunday and the teams that will be in action include Na Fianna of Dublin, St Kiernan’s from London, Brian Boru from Tipperary, Kerry’s Austin Stacks, Castlehaven from Cork, Cuala from Dublin and Feohanagh/Castlemahon from Limerick.
The games will be played across two pitches, which can be easily viewed from all areas of the grounds, with the action starting at 9.30am on the Saturday and 11.00am on the Sunday.
A combination of male and female referees will ensure a tight grip is kept on proceedings between the white lines.
There will be a real carnival atmosphere with bars, food stations and music on site so that the patrons can enjoy some refreshments and a great social atmosphere while the action is underway.
This event is being run as a fundraiser for Spa GAA Club but it is also a chance to showcase the town of Killarney and businesses are sure to benefit from the influx of people over the busy bank holiday weekend.
Tickets, which are selling fast, can be bought on the website: www.killarneyclub7s.ie. A day pass is €20 and a weekend pass will cost €30. Under 18s will be admitted free of charge but they must be accompanied by an adult.
