St Paul’s honour stars on and off the court

Niall O’Callaghan: To be honoured

After a hugely successful season, on and off the court, St Paul’s Basketball Club will honour its standout members at an awards ceremony in the Fáilte Hotel on Friday night.

Men’s coach Manuel Suarez has selected Oisin Spring as his senior player of the year and Mark Sheehan as the top under 20 player.

Ladies’ coach James Fleming  has chosen Denise Dunlea as senior player of the season and Leah McMahon as young player of the year.

Mark Sheehan: U20 top player

A special recognition award will be presented to Christina Bartlett O’Rourke and the clubperson of the year accolade will go to super efficient PRO Enda Walshe.

Padraig Looney has been an ever present at all games this season and he will receive the supporter of the year award.

The amount of work Niall O’Callaghan has put into the club over the years will also be acknowledged.

As a player, supporter, coach, MC and club official, the hours he has put in have been invaluable and that is not even taking into account his work in helping to secure a new home for the club in Derreen.

Leah McMahon: Young player of the year

Niall will be receiving the Caoimhin O’Donoghue Memorial Award for his outstanding services to the club.

Caoimhin was a legendary figure in St Paul’s and it is apt that his great friend Niall is the first recipient of the award. There will be members of the O’Donoghue family in attendance to present the award.
