Students go for glory in Killarney

Back in Killarney: the Kerry Schools Cross-Country Championships

SOME of the finest young athletic talent will be on display in Killarney in the coming days when the town hosts the Kerry Schools Cross-Country Championships.

The pitch at Knockreer, adjacent to the local authority playground, will be the venue on Thursday, January 18 and the first race is due to commence at 11.30am.

The schedule of events is:

  • Minor: Girls 1500m and Boys 2000m
  • Junior: Girls 2000m and Boys 2500m
  • Inter: Girls 2500m and Boys 4000m
  • Senior: Girls 2500m and Boys 5000m

Medals will be presented to the first six individuals and the first three teams. Shields will be presented to the best overall schools in the girl and boys’ events.

Qualification for Munster Schools Cross-Country Championships is through the regional

qualifiers at the North or South Munster Championships in Pallaskenry, Co Limerick on January 25 and Tramore Valley Park, Cork on January 26.

The Munster finals will be held in Waterford IT on February 23 with the All-Ireland deciders fixed for the same venue on March 10.
