KERRY County Council has been urged to open a book of condolence for the late Jack Charlton.
Kerry TD Pa Daly said the charismatic former Republic of Ireland manager, who visited and fished in Kerry on a number of occasions, was a very unique personality in the history of Irish sport.
“Not only did he transform the fortunes of Irish soccer but he brightened the lives of millions of Irish around the world, not just those born on this island but also those whose parents and grandparents had to leave these shores,” Deputy Daly said.
The Sinn Fein TD said Charlton’s boys in green stopped the nation on many occasions and fostered a spirit of togetherness and inclusivity which has never been surpassed.
“They left us with great sporting and indeed life memories during difficult economic times. A book of condolence would be a fitting way for us in Kerry to say thank you to him and show our appreciation to his family,” Deputy Daly added.
