Terry shows his colours in some style

Leeds United fan Terry Potts shows off his collection of club jerseys

IT was a long time coming – 16 years in fact – but Killarney’s small but passionate army of Leeds United fans finally had something to shout about when the club clinch promotion back to the top flight at the weekend.

They achieved their goal without having to kick a ball as Huddersfield Town did the Peacocks a favour by beating their nearest rivals, West Brom, on Friday. But, just to be sure to be sure, Marcelo Bielsa’s side clinched the Division 1 title in style by thumping Derby County on Sunday.

The long-awaited achievement sparked great celebrations in Killarney where there has been a faithful following for Leeds since the days of Johnny Giles, Jack Charlton and Norman Hunter in the 1960s and 70s.

And one of the biggest celebrations of all occurred in the Potts household in Ballydowney where dad, Terry, is a passionate Leeds fan.

Supporters like to show their colours on big match days but Terry took it to a whole new level when he donned his astonishing collection of Leeds shirts that he has accumulated over the years and staged an impromptu fashion show with a difference.

Posting a series of snapshots on Twitter, Terry commented that he was 37 when Leeds were relegated in 2004 and he has lived through what was, in soccer terms, a mid-life crisis, until they managed to get back to the top flight.

Of his remarkable jersey collection, he joked that his wife wanted them thrown out because he never wears them so he did – all at once.

In Killarney town centre, meanwhile, whoops of delight could be heard by those passing The Fáilte Hotel which is the unofficial Leeds Unite supporters’ headquarters and where the soccer-mad O’Callaghan brothers are among the greatest fans of the newly promoted side.
