They played soccer non-stop for 54 hours

CLOSE on half a century ago this small group of football fanatics kicked their way into the Guinness Book of Records for their exploits on the indoor soccer court.

They were all members of Fossa Youth Club and they set about creating a new world first for the length of time they spent playing seven-a-side soccer non-stop.

46 years have now passed since their remarkable feat, playing for an astonishing 54 hours and, in the process, they became history makers on 4th August 1975.

The players involved were, front from left, Noel Fitzgerald, Liam Walsh, Ger O’Sullivan, Pat Fitzgerald and Richie Williams with, at back from left, Jimmy Fleming, Larry Daly, Alex Rintoul, Tom McTiernan and Brian Fitzgerald.
