This time it’s the long goodbye from Rory

Having filled the role of education executive with the Catholic Primary Schools’ Management Association since September 2021, Rory D’Arcy has announced his retirement from St Oliver’s National School in Killarney.

Rory D’Arcy certainly enjoyed the special concert at St Oliver’s National School to mark his retirement.

After two decades on the staff there, he had been seconded for close on three years from the position of administrative principal teacher in St Oliver’s but there was a real day of nostalgia on Friday last when he returned to Ballycasheen to bid farewell to the pupils and the staff.

There was a real party atmosphere but also an air of sadness as Rory and his family arrived at the school where the pupils lined the corridors and were queuing up to high-five or get autographs from their popular former principal.

Staff at the school, led by principal Colm Ó Sullleabháin, made it a very special occasion with kind words and great singing and, later in the evening, the entire staff, past staff members and invited guests gathered in the Killarney Plaza Hotel for a rousing farewell party.
