Thugs leave mounds of filth and a trail of broken glass

The mounds of filth left behind after an open air party near Ross Castle

THIS was the filthy aftermath of an open air weekend party held in the shadow of scenic Ross Castle that has left locals seething and others having to clean up the mess.

Dozens of empty beer bottles and cans, the packaging they came in and refuse sacks full of rubbish was left at the edge of the water on Lough Lein, on the eastern side of Ross Island, just hidden from busy walking trails.

Dozens of beer bottles, cans and other waste left behind for others to worry about

The discovery was made by disgusted local, Harold Clifton, who said not only did those responsible leave all their rubbish after them but they smashed a large amount of bottles against the rocks on the shoreline, leaving a dangerous trail of shards of glass.

Several cans and bottles were also dumped along the access trail to the area.

Local fishermen said they saw a party taking place in the area last Saturday but those responsible didn’t have the decency to clean up their mess and left their filth for others to worry about.

Anybody that may have noticed any suspicious or unruly behaviour in the area last Saturday or over the course of the weekend is encouraged to report the matter to Gardai or the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
