Tom Cruise reported to be holidaying in Kerry

The Celebrity Jets post on Twitter than sparked a flurry of excitement just after 12 noon this Wednesday

Excited celebrity spotters are hoping that it’s very much Mission Possible with speculation increasing that Hollywood star Tom Cruise may be currently holidaying in Kerry and local businesses might be seeing the colour of his money.

According to an online celebrity jets information tracker, a US-registered Challenger 300 linked to the big star touched down in Kerry early this afternoon following a short flight from Shannon.

Tom Gun star Cruise had been spotted paragliding with friends in the Lake District in the UK at the weekend but, despite some reported possible sightings in Kerry this afternoon, there is no concrete evidence that he is currently in the county or that he was even on board the aircraft.

It is believed that he is currently filimng Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part Two which is due for general release in 2024.

The superstar American actor, who has received three Academy Award nominations, is very familiar with Kerry where he filmed Far and Away, with his then wife Nicole Kidman, in 1992.

He remained very much out of the public eye during that stay in Kerry but Cruise and Kidman memorably smiled and willingly posed for a snapshot when they encountered Killarney photographer Don MacMonagle on their way to a restaurant in Dingle.

The 30th anniversary of Far and Away being filmed in West Kerry was marked with a special screening of the movie in Páidi Ó Sé’s pub in Ventry last March.

On a visit to Dublin in 2013, Cruise was presented with a Certificate of Irish Heritage after revealing that he had Irish ancestors.

The 60-yar-old actor is a smash hit box office star who has featured in some iconic action movies including Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, War of the Worlds, Oblivion, The Mummy and the Mission Impossible series.

Other big roles included Jerry Maguire, the Oscar winning Rain Man, The Color of Money, Cocktail, A Few Good Men, Magnolia, Neil Jordan’s Interview with the Vampire and Born on the Fourth of July for which he achieved a best actor Golden Globe.
