Trees blocking walkways and roads still closed

ALTHOUGH many of the areas worst affected by flooding caused by the torrential overnight rain have now been cleared, spot flooding remains a problem on several roads in the greater Killarney area and a number of trees have crashed to the ground.

Several walks and treks within Killarney National Park have been closed to the public due to floods and the areas worst affected include the Old Kenmare Road near Derrycunnihy, the lower road at Tomies Wood, Ross Castle and the river walk from White’s Bridge to the Game Wood.

At least two trees have fallen on to the roadway along the Fossa Way and members of the public who are walking or cycling in the area have been encouraged to proceed with caution.

The road at Listry Bridge, on the main Killarney to Milltown road, remains closed to traffic this evening due to significant flooding.

In a statement, Kerry County Council said: “spot flooding and significant surface water has reported across the county so please travel with extreme care, slow down and avoid flooded areas”.

To report any further flooding or fallen trees, the council’s emergency phone line is 066-7183588.
