Trees down as Kerry gets battered

AS Storm Ophelia batters Kerry in a relentless manner Kerry County Council has reported that there is a tree down and causing an obstruction near Spa GAA field in Killarney and a tree is blocking the road between Ballyhar and Milltown.

In Caherciveen-Castlequin, the Over the Water route is impassable and the Annadale Road, Killorglin is closed.

Earlier this morning trees fell on the N71 road near the mart in Kenmare and at Cahir school near Kenmare which has now been cleared.

There have been power cuts in Muckross, Killarney, Waterville and Milltown and close on 2,000 homes in Rathmore are without power.

The county emergency plan has been put in place and, from a base in Tralee, senior Kerry County Council officials and engineers, the HSE, Gardai, fire and ambulance personnel and the civil defence are continuing to monitor and respond to event as they happen throughout the county.
