It should be government policy that all trees within falling distance of electricity wires be cut down, a Kerry TD has insisted.
Deputy Danny Healy-Rae said in places like Brosna and Cordal in Kerry during the big freeze several outages were caused by fallen trees and it caused huge inconvenience for residents.

“We see what has happened in recent days. This can’t continue,” he insisted,
“There was no trees when these wires were put in place but now the trees have grown up around them.
“In addition to that, all trees within falling distance of roads have to be cut down. Common sense will have to prevail,” said Deputy Healy-Rae who said he raised the matter with the Taoiseach and the minister.
