Two past the post and all still to fight for

THE third count at the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre is just nearing completion but no other candidate will be elected at this stage.

The second count – the distribution of Michael Healy-Rae’s surplus – saw the bulk of the 3,873 votes going to his brother, Danny, who received 1,941 bringing his total to 10,604. But he is still well over 2,300 votes shy of the required quota of 12,945.

Interestingly, Fine Gael’s Brendan Griffin received 542 transfers from the poll-topper which was more than the three Fianna Fail candidates individually with Norma Foley receiving 415, John Brassil getting 234 and Norma Moriarty benefiting to the tune of 282.

Returning Officer, Padraig Burke, and his count staff are now distributing newly elected Sinn Fein TD Pa Daly’s surplus of 2,788.
