Paul Murphy reports
Dr Crokes 2-20 Killarney Legion 2-5
IMPRESSIVE Dr. Crokes hosted their neighbours Killarney Legion in a round six clash of the Kerry Ladies Intermediate Junior A Championship on Monday.
Crokes, coming into the game unbeaten, were firm favourites and first to register on the scoreboard was Siobhan Byrnes after bursting through from midfield to split the uprights. There followed a purple patch for Crokes with Treasa ‘Sullivan, Emma Dineen, Kate Stack and Rheanne O’Shea all keeping the umpire busy.
It was shaping up to look like Crokes might put daylight between the teams but Killarney Legion continued to play with great determination and they were duly rewarded with a purple patch of their own.
Wing forward Elizabeth Mohan had two points from frees and the same player then pounced for the game’s first goal.
The home team responded well by continuing to put points on the board. Wing forward Sarah McMahon was as industrious as ever and was instrumental in her team’s continual bombardment of the Legion goal, one which ended in Deirdre Lyne making the first of her may fine saves from the boot of Kate Stack.
Points were exchanged by both teams and despite some fine goalkeeping from Jess Leahy and great defending from Aoife Fleming, Caoilinn O’Donoghue, Kayleigh Cronin and Lily Foley, Killarney Legion’s Denise Lyne netted for her team’s second goal, keeping them well in the game.
Crokes hit back with five points of their own, however, and Jade Potts blasted the ball to the roof of the net to give Crokes a 1-10 to 2-4 half-time lead. Dr Crokes introduced Ava Sheehan and Niamh Stack at the start of the second half with the latter back in action after a long lay-off with injury and she continued where she left off, scoring two points.
Dr Crokes powered into the second half, adding to their points tally within minutes of the throw-in. Unfortunately, for Legion, they were unable to keep up the intensity they demonstrated in the first half.
A top-drawer foot pass by Kate Stack set up Julie Delaney for a second goal for Crokes who are away to Milltown/Listry in round seven and Killarney Legion travel to Listowel.

Meanwhile, in round five of the Junior B Championship Fossa earned a 3-11 to 2-14 draw with Abbeydorney.
The second half saw Fossa make a few positional switches one notably moving Kate Murphy and Anna Clifford to midfield where they had a great battle with Rachel McCarthy and Amy O[Sullivan.
Erica McGlynn moved out to the half forward line and it was a huge move as Fossa thundered into the game with points from Anna Clifford (two) Erica McGlynn (three) and a cracking goal from Kate Murphy before the brilliant Erica McGlynn got on the end of a great move to dispatch it into the net and level the game.
