‘Upstairs’ option for housing to be pursued

Mayor Michael Gleeson: Property proposal

AS the housing crisis escalates and the shortage of rental properties has gone beyond crisis point, property owners in Killarney town are to be asked to inform the local authority if the upper floors of their premises or dwellings are available for letting to individuals or families on the growing housing waiting list.

The proposal was put forward by Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Michael Gleeson, who said people in Rathmore, Barradubh and Kilcummin should also be approached with a similar request.

“If this proposal found acceptance with the owners and the council, it would provide much needed accommodation and help revitalise those locations,” Mayor Gleeson said.

Kerry County Council said it will shortly undertake an advertising campaign on the various letting and leasing schemes it operates to encourage property owners to consider making any available property available as part of the social housing programme.
