Community spirit and a fabulous splash of colour has added to the recent renovations to the recreational area at Pinewood Estate.

The multi-use games area is used for a whole variety of sporting disciplines, including outdoor basketball, soccer, tennis and volleyball complete with a fully equipped outdoor exercise area with top class keep fit gear.

Residents’ Committee treasurer Marguerite Harty Costello, who grew up in Pinewood, spearheaded the campaign to literally brighten up the community with the help of Cllr Martin Grady and local artist Deborah O’Connell O’Keeffe who painted a feature wall in spectacular colours and with fabulous designs.

“Deborah was fantastic and involved the children of the estate in completing the artwork and we couldn’t have done it without the direction of Cllr Grady,” she said.

“There is a wonderful community spirit in our estate. We are a community of 160 homes and take great pride in where we live.

“It’s a team effort all round and a great place to live. Our recreational area is enjoyed by all ages with a curfew of 9.00pm to be respectful to our elderly residents,” Marguerite added.

She particularly thanked resident Dan Doona Snr for his extensive work to the public areas.
