The stylish Killarney Park Hotel has been named Ireland’s top luxury hotel

FOUR family owned and run businesses in Kerry have been included in the top ten hotels in Ireland honours list by contributors to the influential travel website TripAdvisor.

The five-star Killarney Park Hotel is at number two on the elite list, just behind hotel of the year winner Harvey’s Point in Co Donegal, but the Killarney Park has also been named the top luxury hotel in Ireland ahead of Ashford Castle in Co Mayo, Dromoland Castle in Co Clare, Adare Manor in Limerick and Cork’s Hayfield Manor.

Two other Killarney hotels featured very prominently in the best hotels in Ireland top ten with the Huggard family owned Lake Hotel in sixth place overall and the Brehon Hotel, part of the Gleneagle Group, in ninth position. Ballygarry House in Tralee was in fifth place.

With the Killarney Park taking the laurels in the best luxury hotel category, there was good news also for the five-star Muckross Park Hotel which finished in eight position.

Killarney and Kerry also featured very strongly in the top small hotels category which was won by Heaton’s Guesthouse in Dingle with Loch Lein Country House in Fossa, Killarney a close runner-up.

The Ross Hotel in Killarney was placed sixth in the top small hotels category with Brook Lane Hotel in Kenmare in seventh place.

Castlewood House in Dingle topped the list for best service in Ireland.

There was success also for Killarney in the top bed and breakfast category with Friar’s Glen in Muckross in second place, just behind overall winner Daly’s House in Doolin, Co Clare with the 19th Lodge in Ballybunion in fourth position.

And the haul of Killarney awards didn’t end there as there was a notable double success in the top restaurants in Ireland category.

Rozzers Restaurant in the Killeen House Hotel is one of Ireland best restaurants

Rozzers in the Killeen House Hotel was in fifth place in the overall ratings while Mulcahy’s in Kenmare was in sixth.

That category was won by Chapter One in Dublin but Rozzers and Mulcahy’s were placed ahead of several of the country’s best-known restaurants, including L’Ecrivain and Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud in Dublin and Finns’ Table in Kinsale.

The TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards are based on customer reviews published by the website in 2019 and the winners were determined based on the quality of reviews and opinions expressed about their properties.

According to the TripAdvisor ratings, Viroth’s Hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia was the top hotel in the world while Auberge du Vieux in Puits Fontjoncouse, France was the world’s best restaurant.
