Always considered one of the social highlights of the year, the annual Killarney Rotary Club wine and art night, held in the lead-up to Christmas, raised a whopping €25,000 for the chosen causes.
Club President, Ciara Irwin Foley, said they were delighted with the total and she thanked the members of the club and every person who helped along the way.
The one-night event, held in the Great Southern Hotel, supports local community projects in the Killarney area such as schools, clubs and local charities with the support of several local sponsors.
Uo to 50 artists and craftspeople displayed their work, some of whom have been showing since the fundraiser began and it’s a wonderful opportunity for them to network.
“There is always great interest from the artists to get involved in such a worthy event and a percentage of their sales is donated on the night. Some also very generously donate their works of art for the auction where 100 per cent of the money raised goes to the overall beneficiary fund,” said Ciara.

The beneficiaries in turn busy themselves in advance selling tickets for the night and it is through that activity that they raise funds for their projects.
“The schools, clubs, organisations and charities involved put in an enormous effort and it is always fantastic to hear how the money raised has benefitted them and what they have used the money for,” Ciara added.
The wine and art night is a big undertaking for the Rotary Club with major preparations happening well in advance.
This year the chosen beneficiaries were Faha, Fossa, Knockanes and Loughquittane primary schools, Gaelscoil Faithleann, Scoil Bhríde Loreto, St. Brendan’s College, Kerry Hospice, Irish Pilgrimage Trust, Kerry Stars Special Olympics Club, Killarney Athletic AFC and Killarney Valley AC.
