SIGNIFICANT works to ensure an area near a church, primary school and a childcare facility commenced this Monday in the village of Firies.
The project, in the car park opposite St Gertrude’s Church, will include the provision of a proper footpath linking Marian Hall with the school, the crèche and the local playground to a footpath on Molahiffe road leading to the village.
Overhanging trees that had been causing some obstruction will also be cut back and extra lighting will be provided.
Cllr Brendan Cronib, welcoming the news, remarked: “I am delighted that this important work is going ahead following a successful Clár application made by the parish”.
He added: “When completed, there will be a proper safe footpath linking the residential areas of Firies to all local facilities”.
Approximately 30 usual car parking spaces will not be available during the three to four weeks it will take to complete the work.
