Young Kerry fans seeing stars

THEY were star-struck, they were excited and they were cheering with all their might as a new generation of young Kerry fans got to get up close and personal with their sporting heroes at Killarney’s Fitzgerald Stadium this Saturday afternoon.

Autograph hunters were out in force and every conceivable space on green and gold jerseys was inked as hundreds of delighted young supporters turned out for the only open day that will take place before the All-Ireland final showdown with Donegal.

Team boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice and players Fionn Fitzgerald, Declan O’Sullivan, Kieran O’Leary and Anthony Maher were assigned to press conference duties behind the scenes while the rest of the squad took to the field to press the flesh and greet the ecstatic supporters.

Selfies were the order of the day and team posters were signed with great gusto as the heroes of 2014 mingled with the attendance for well over an hour.

The biggest cheer of the day, perhaps not surprisingly, was reserved for man-of-the-moment James O’Donoghue while Kieran Donaghy, Marc Ó Se and Darran O’Sullivan also got a rousing reception.
