A PROMISING young rock group, who filmed their new video on the streets of Killarney, opted to do so while the town was asleep to get a clear run at it.

Deep Sky Objects, a three-piece band featuring brothers Kevin and Thomas O’Brien and DD Foley, had the props in place and cameras rolling on Main Street, High Street, East Avenue Road and Mission Road from midnight to 3 o’clock in the morning to ensure minimum interruption.

And the end result is a classy, well-structured video (link below) that captures the story behind their latest track, Hope, as well as showcasing how attractive Killarney actually is after dark.

“It worked out really well. The three of us were involved and we had two young actors from Cork playing the main parts,” Kevin told KillarneyToday.com.

The finished product has been uploaded to Youtube and the three pals are hoping it will bring them to greater public attention.

Vocalist Kevin, from Castlemaine, teamed up with bass player and Faha native DD when they were both students at Pres Milltown and they soon enlisted Kevin’s younger brother, Thomas, who is a keen drummer.

They started writing their own music before releasing a five-track EP and that helped them to secure a number of gigs in Killarney, Tralee, Cork, Limerick and Dublin. They have already been booked to play at K-Fest in Killorglin in June.

Kevin, who works in Cork, and UCC student DD are both 24 while 18-year-old Thomas is preparing for his first year in college. But all three hope to make the big breakthrough in the music industry that they crave.

“We’re getting a great reaction and the online Pure magazine has already chosen our previous video as the video of the week.

“Our immediate goal is to record more music this summer and get more gigs countrywide,” said Kevin who said they have received great support and encouragement from Tony O’Flaherty of Sonas Recording in Killarney.

They list several influences, including The Smiths, Joy Division, REM and Radiohead, but Deep Sky Objects are determined to create their own very distinctive sound.

Their five-track EP, We’re Done Falling, is available to download on iTunes and Spotify and more about the band can be found on www.deepskyobjects.net.
