A bus that left Killarney for Northern Ireland this Friday morning was the 165th time transport for patients seeking cataract procedures was arranged by Deputy Danny Healy-Rae.
It department from O’Callaghan’s Coaches at 6.00am with an arrangement to stop in Cork to collect picking up people in Cork on the way Kingsbridge Hospital in Derry and it was one of 10 buses arranged by Deputy Danny Healy-Rae and Cork TD Michael Collins in the past three weeks.
The reimbursement from the HSE to patients travelling for cataract procedures is being decreased by approximately €800 from September 1 which has been slated by the Kerry TD.
“This government does not provide a proper service for people in the Republic of Ireland and people would have to wait up to four years to get their cataract procedure,” he said.
“The government is boasting that the exchequer was never in a better place financially, at the same time they are hitting the most vulnerable people who want to save their eyesight,” Deputy Healy-Rae said.
